Kali

Age: 14+ | Experience Requirement: None

Kali [aka: Escrima or Arnis] is the stick and knife fighting Arts of the Philippines covering the combative arts from over 7000 versions of this art!

There are 12 areas of combat in Kali including the same as JKD and others like single stick/knife, double stick/knife, stick and shield, stick and dagger, flexible weapons, long weapons [staff], and even projectile weapons!

You will get a great workout training in Kali, but its greatest benefits include hand-eye coordination, reaction time, fast movement recognition, timing and speed all leading to an extremely effective Art for self-defense! Few other Martial Arts teach these skills like Kali does.

Do you face any of these challenges?

  • Interested in learning effective stick and knife defense but don’t know where to start?
  • Want to improve coordination, timing, spatial awareness and reaction time through weapons-based training?
  • Looking for a dynamic martial art that challenges both your mind and body?

Training at Integrated Martial Arts with Instructor Stephen has been an incredible experience. From day one, he and the other students made me feel welcome and challenged me to grow. He’s professional, extremely knowledgeable, and has a way of making every class both fun and engaging while keeping the techniques relevant and practical. What sets this gym apart from others is the well-rounded training regimen, combining Jeet Kune Do, JKD Grappling, and Kali to develop striking, grappling, and weapons skills. Learning from multiple disciplines has made my training more effective, adaptable, and practical for real-world situations. Whether you’re brand new to martial arts or have been training for years, I feel this gym is the perfect place to learn, grow, and improve. Stephen genuinely cares about his students and their progress, and I can’t recommend training here enough!

I recently joined IMA and love it. Sifu Steve is an incredible coach and mentor and really understands how to teach martial arts. The community there is awesome, very friendly people who just want to help each other. No egos or macho BS. Plus I get to learn Bruce Lee's martial art, my inner 13 year old is thrilled.

His well-rounded curriculum provides an excellent workout, comprehensive instruction and a supportive and inclusive community. Integrated Martial Arts is a great school and I encourage you to check us out.

My son and I have been training with Sifu Stephen at Idaho IMA for about a year and a half and we absolutely love it. He's a gifted teacher who is organized, creates a fun learning environment, and fosters positivity while clearly teaching new skills and reinforcing the "why" behind them. There's always the right amount of challenge! He's not only created a school, but a community of people who are fun to train with and enjoy being with each other. When you train with Idaho IMA you won't be disappointed!

Program & Pricing FAQs

What styles of martial arts do you teach?

At Integrated Martial Arts, we offer Jeet Kune Do and Kali for students ages 14 and up. Jeet Kune Do blends techniques from various martial arts and focuses on practical self-defense in all four combat ranges. Kali is a Filipino martial art that emphasizes weapon-based training, including stick and knife techniques, as well as empty-hand applications.

Do I need any prior experience to join?

Not at all! Our programs are designed to accommodate beginners as well as more experienced martial artists. Whether you’re just starting your journey or returning after a break, our classes are structured to help you progress at your own pace.

What's a good age for a child to start martial arts?

Honestly, practically every age is a good age to start! However, we currently only offer programs for teens (14 years and up). We hope to offer kids’ classes in the future. To be notified when they’re available, feel free to contact us and join our waiting list!

What should I wear to my first martial arts class?

For your first martial arts class we recommend comfortable athletic wear (like a t-shirt and workout pants) and a clean pair of sneakers (no mud/slush). If you decide to continue, we’ll guide you on any specific gear or equipment needed based on the program you choose.

Is martial arts training safe?

Yes! Safety is a top priority in all our martial arts classes. Our instructor ensures a controlled, respectful environment where students train with proper technique, supervision, and protective gear when necessary.

How is Integrated Martial Arts different from traditional martial arts schools?

Unlike traditional schools that focus on one style or follow rigid forms, our approach is modern and functional. We emphasize adaptability, practical self-defense, and personal growth through the integrated systems of Jeet Kune Do and Kali. Our training blends tradition with real-world effectiveness.

Is there a hidden cost or obligation?

Nope — no hidden fees, no obligations. We offer a free 2-hour intro class because we want you to experience our program firsthand. We know you’ll find enough value in that session to decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Why do you offer a free intro class?

Because we understand that everyone learns and develops skills differently. Each with their strengths, weaknesses, and unique challenges. Our 2-hour assessment class gives us a chance to get to know you and gives you a chance to experience our program risk-free.

Are these classes fun?

Yes! We love to have fun. We believe you learn more and faster if you are laughing and smiling. We work hard here – but we play just as hard.

Do you have to be in good shape to take Martial Arts?

Not at all! In fact, many people use martial arts as a way to get in good shape. They come to us out of shape, and quickly become athletic and limber.

More Confidence. More Focus. Get Fit.
